Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Nov. 26, 2024 – A K9 with the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office will receive a body armor donation from a national nonprofit.

The Craighead County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday that K9 Faye will receive a bullet and stab-protective vest due to a charitable donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., a Massachusetts-based nonprofit established in 2009. The vest will be embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of K9 Gabo, Jonesboro, AR – EOW 1/16/20.”

The vest is expected to arrive in 10 weeks. Each vest is valued at $1,800, weighs an average of four to five pounds and comes with a five-year warranty, according to a news release from the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office.

The program is open to any U.S. dogs at least 20 months old who are actively working with and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vets can also receive donations.

“This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and NIJ certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 5,794 vests to K9s in all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million, made possible by both private and corporate donations,” the news release read.

This comes after two K9s with the Jonesboro Police Department, Crash and Rocky, received vests from the organization on Nov. 22. These vests will also be embroidered with the sentiment remembering K9 Gabo.
