Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 28, 2025 – The Craighead County Quorum Court recognized the life and service of former Justice of the Peace Barbara Weinstock on Monday in a unanimously passed resolution.
Weinstock served as Justice of the Peace for District 5 for over 22 years, ending her term in 2024. She died Jan. 12, 2025.
“Throughout her tenure, Barbara was recognized by fellow justices and three county judges for her independent voice, her commitment to reasoned decision-making and her unwavering advocacy on behalf of the citizens of Craighead County,” the resolution said. “Barbara Weinstock’s passing is a great loss to Craighead County, and her legacy of selflessness, leadership and devotion will forever be remembered.”
During the meeting, Justice of the Peace for District 13, Kevin Williams, announced that the Quorum Court members donated $300 to the Barbara Weinstock Charitable Endowment at the Craighead County Community Foundation.
“She was a great lady, we’ll miss her,” Craighead County Judge Marvin Day said.
In addition, during the Mayor’s Reports of the Jan. 21 City Council meeting, Mayor Harold Copenhaver honored Weinstock’s passing.
“[She] served her community with steadfast knowledge and longevity that may never be repeated,” Copenhaver said. “God bless her family and we offer thanks to Barbara for serving her community in the way she did.”
In addition to serving on the Quorum Court, Weinstock served as president of the League of Women Voters at the city and state levels. She also served on the Forum Commission and was president of Friends of the Forum. Weinstock served on United Way of Northeast Arkansas’s Board of Directors for 22 years and was executive director of the Craighead County Community Foundation from 2001 to 2020, among others.
She is survived by her children Howard L. Weinstock, Micheal A. Weinstock, Robert M. Weinstock and Lisa Sagely, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rick Myers is the new Justice of the Peace for District 5. He ran against Barbara Brown during the 2024 general election, receiving 54.10% of the vote.
