Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — April 2, 2025 — In response to incoming severe weather, Craighead County and the City of Jonesboro are providing free sandbags for the public.

The National Weather Service has forecasted heavy rain and severe storms starting Wednesday, with severe weather remaining possible through Saturday. “Catastrophic flooding” is expected, with the NWS predicting anywhere from five to 10 inches of rain, with higher amounts in certain areas.

In response, Craighead County is offering sandbags for the public at the Craighead County Road Department, located at 2800 Moore Road in Jonesboro. In a Facebook post, the county said it has pre-filled sandbags, empty bags, and sand available. In addition to picking up pre-filled bags, the county said people are welcome to take empty bags and fill them themselves.

Craighead County Judge Marvin Day said crews will be available to help with sandbags until the weather moves in.

“If you need sandbags, please be patient as our team continues to fill them,” the Facebook post said. “When picking up, please use the main gate of the facility and drive back until directed by staff.”

Additionally, the City of Jonesboro posted on its official Facebook page that it was offering free sandbags for residents due to anticipated heavy rain and flooding. Jonesboro residents are limited to 20 bags, and they are available while supplies last.

Pick up sandbags at 1624 Strawfloor Drive, with pickup lasting while supplies remain available or until 5 p.m. Assistance will be provided as weather permits.

The City of Jonesboro posted on Facebook that it had run out of sandbags. However, it said the Street Department planned to restock and reopen at the Strawfloor location at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, weather permitting.

The City of Bono is also offering sandbags to residents, it said in a city-wide text message. Bags are available at the City of Bono Shop on School Street. If unable to physically handle the bags, the city said staff could get bags to residents.
