Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Feb. 25, 2025 – The City of Jonesboro’s Sanitation Department has started a new initiative for Jonesboro residents to get rid of some of their larger items.
Called “Getting Rid of the Bulky Junk,” the initiative allows Jonesboro citizens to drop off their items to the City’s incinerator to a specific roll-off dumpster designated for large, bulky items. The incinerator is located at 2650 Lacy Drive, with drop-off hours from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“Bulky junk” includes old appliances such as refrigerators or washing machines, old barbeque grills, furniture, and more. The City does not collect these items when it runs its sanitation routes, but people can also drop these items off at Legacy Landfill, located at 238 County Road 476.
“What prompted us to start this was the need to help out our residents. We only do a Neighborhood Cleanup once a month and some people don’t know where Legacy Landfill is or don’t have access to drive out there, so I created an avenue to help people who live local who have small items that can bring it to our area to dispose of. So, we made it accessible and easy for our residents to use,” said Sanitation Superintendent Patrick Courtois.
These items are also accepted in the City’s monthly Neighborhood Cleanups. The next cleanup is scheduled for March 1.
“It is a great convenience and best of all, saves the City and thus the taxpayers, lots of money and tipping fees,” said City Councilmember Chris Moore during Monday’s City Council meeting. Moore was serving as mayor pro tempore during the meeting, as Copenhaver was out due to a family emergency.
