Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept. 30, 2024 – Official visits to determine the structural integrity of the old Citizens Bank building will begin Tuesday.
Jordan Lane, a structural engineer with 21 years of experience, will conduct the assessment. Over the weekend, he determined a safety hazard could exist, but that a detailed plan was needed to provide any conclusions about the building’s integrity.
The City of Jonesboro will also release a traffic plan within the next 24 hours to direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic around the building.
Last week, a bulge was noticed in the side of the building, prompting parts of Main Street to shut down and for the surrounding area to be closed to pedestrian traffic.
“City officials are in process of gathering additional credentials from regional structural engineering firms for additional opinions,” read a City of Jonesboro Facebook post. “The City will await guidance from the structural engineer before any additional comments on the condition of the building.”
