Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 9, 2025 – The City of Jonesboro posted some winter readiness tips for senior citizens on Facebook, as everyone prepares for the Arctic blast to come.
Walkways and steps should be cleared of snow and ice. If the main entrance to your home is icy, choose a safer entrance to avoid a fall. In addition, make sure there is enough lighting outdoors, especially near walkways and stairs. Make sure any steps are sturdy and have textured grips to reduce slipping as well.
The City added that senior citizens should keep updated contact information for a nearby family member or friend who can check in regularly.
Dry off any mobility aids, such as the tips or wheels of canes, walkers, or wheelchairs.
Senior citizens should make sure they dress warmly when they go out and eat enough to maintain a healthy weight during the cold months, the City said.
Finally, senior citizens should keep their hands free when near walkways, steps, or doors. To keep hands free, have a small table or shelf nearby to rest items on.
