Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Dec. 10, 2024 – The City of Jonesboro has been awarded a Bureau of Justice Assistance Edward Byrne Memorial Grant for $39,180.

Grant funds will be used to purchase new, in-vehicle laptops, printers, and scanners for the traffic division of the Jonesboro Police Department. Additionally, funding will assist in improving the department’s fitness facility.

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program is the leading source of federal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions. The JAG Program provides states, tribes, and local governments with critical funding necessary to support a range of program areas in law.

“Any time we can secure additional funding to assist our police officers to perform their duties more efficiently, we’re excited to announce it,” said Mayor Harold Copenhaver.  “It is also important for our residents to appreciate the significance of the grants department in virtually every aspect of city government.”

The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) was established in 1984 by the Justice Assistance Act and is part of the Office of Justice Programs.  BJA also sponsors the National Criminal Intelligence Resource Center, which provides resources for criminal justice professionals.
