Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Nov. 19, 2024 – The United States Department of Energy has announced Jonesboro has been awarded a federal grant as part of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program.

Jonesboro is the only city in the state to receive an EECBG grant in this block of funding.

The city will use the funds to purchase approximately 70 LEDS to enhance roadway and pedestrian safety while improving energy efficiency.

“We continue to find ways to increase public safety, and lighting is one important element, “said Mayor Harold Copenhaver.  “To be the only recipient of this funding in the state is a testament to the hard work and thoughtful use of resources, including these types of competitive awards. This is part of a larger initiative to light up our corridors.”

Additionally, the city will provide grants to nonprofit organizations for building retrofits – ultimately saving the non-profits money and promoting the sustainability of their public infrastructure. Remaining funds will be deployed for an energy assessment of Jonesboro City Hall.

The total amount awarded to Jonesboro is $137, 970.  This is a 100% grant and does not require matching dollars. Jonesboro was one of 61 local and territorial governments in the United States to receive the funding.
