Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 9, 2025 – In preparation for the forecasted snowstorm, the City of Jonesboro has implemented inclement weather procedures.

Some departments are working 12-hour shifts, including the Streets Department.  Work has begun pre-treating bridges with sand to increase traction. When conditions warrant, clearing major thoroughfares will take place, prioritizing streets that provide access to vital services. City maintenance crews will clear certain pathways to city services.

Drivers should be aware some major roads such as Highland Drive, Red Wolf Boulevard, Johnson Avenue and Southwest Drive are state highways, and clearing is managed by the state highway department.

Jonesboro Police and Fire Departments will be on alert for emergency response needs.

During the anticipated winter storm, the primary warming center provided by the city will be the Earl Bell Center, 1212 S. Church St. Overnight accommodations are currently scheduled to be provided by the Salvation Army. JETS may operate on limited routes Friday to provide free transportation to the centers if conditions warrant.

The City of Jonesboro works closely with Craighead County Emergency Management in providing more overnight accommodations if needed, at which time the community will seek the help of the Red Cross.

At this time, there are no plans to close the municipal building on Friday.
