Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – The City of Jonesboro’s Sanitation Department announced it acquired a new type of sanitation truck on Wednesday.

This new truck is a small rear-load truck nicknamed a “packrat.” According to a news release from the City, it is much smaller than an automated sanitation truck. The “packrat” weighs in at 18,500 pounds, while an automated truck weighs approximately 36,820 pounds.

Because the truck is so much smaller, it does not require a CDL (commercial driver’s license) to operate it, “providing more accessibility to employment for the public,” the news release said.

“The smaller machine is able to maneuver easily through dead-end streets, cul-de-sacs and narrow roads, ideally allowing for more efficient service of the community- and that is reason to celebrate,” the news release said.
