Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 8. 2025 – The City of Jonesboro has been promoting Arkansas 211, a free 24/7 assistance hotline, to help connect residents to humanitarian aid.

211 is a confidential resource connecting residents to services such as:

  • food and shelter: access to meals, housing support, and more.
  • utilities: rent, utilities, and emergency assistance.
  • health and mental health: counseling, medical care, crisis hotlines.
  • employment and education: job search, GED classes, unemployment aid.
  • personal needs: diapers, hygiene items, clothing support.
  • transportation: gas money, taxi fare, local travel help.
  • disaster relief: recovery and emergency services.

Residents can dial 211 from any phone or visit www.arkansas211.org for 24/7 help in multiple languages. Residents can also text their zip code to 898-211 (TXT-211).

This resource provides local support tailored for Jonesboro to allow quick access to resources when you need them most.

“It’s for helping all emergencies outside of emergencies,” Mayor Harold Copenhaver said during the mayor’s report of Tuesday’s city council meeting. “In addition to facilitating the exchange of information, this service helps keep 911 emergency lines available for immediate, life-threatening emergencies.”

211 is a United Way project, with the Northeast Arkansas United Way helping fund it. Northwest Arkansas United Way runs the service, but it serves the whole state. The service went statewide in 2019.

Arkansas residents can dial 211 from anywhere in the state to reach a highly trained information and resource specialist who will assess their needs and provide a list of referrals to available resources in their community from a database of over 19,000 resources. Referrals are usually given over the phone, emailed or texted. If someone calls with a crisis, they can be transferred to a crisis specialist or 911.
