Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — April 25, 2025 — With the former Citizens Bank building gone, the demolition project is projected to be complete within the next few weeks.

Donna Malone, director of communications for the City of Jonesboro, said the project is nearing completion, however, there is no exact date yet. In an update posted to social media on Thursday, the city estimated completion in mid-May.

“We are really looking forward to it,” Malone said. “Some of it depends on the weather because you’re replacing the sidewalk. So, you have to cut out the old junk and put in the new concrete. If the weather stays dry, it shouldn’t take that long.”

Parts of Main Street have been shut down since Sept. 25, 2024, when a bulge was noticed on the side of the seven-story building. The City Council voted in January to approve the demolition project through Nabholz Construction at an estimated cost of $3.25 million. Demolition began on March 10.

She also noted that site stabilization began this week, which consists of sod and seeding to establish grass cover.

“They’re prepping that ground and everything,” she said. “Putting topsoil on it to let some grass grow.”

Malone also noted that the asphalt overlay work is scheduled to begin next week, as well as traffic signal reinstallation. Updates will continue to be posted on the City of Jonesboro social media outlets.
