Mr. Carmack Wilson Sanders of Harrisburg, departed this life on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at the NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro, at the age of 89.
He was born November 2, 1934 in Sitka, Arkansas, the son of the late Woodrow Wilson Sanders and Pauline Sanders.
Carmack graduated from Trumann High School and attended Memphis State on a football scholarship. He graduated Memphis State with a B.A. in Education and then attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, where he graduated with a Masters and a Specialist in Education. Following college, he farmed 10 years with Raymond and Jerry Heeb. He married Barbara Heeb in 1956 and they enjoyed 68 years together. He served a short time in the Army National Guard and his first deployment was with the Little Rock Nine. After farming for 10 years, he began his teaching career at Trumann High School and from there was hired in Jonesboro. He later became the director of the Area Vo-Tech School. He worked there for 40 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ for 76 years and a Justice of the Peace for Poinsett County until his death. He actively followed his grandson’s sports when he was able.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Keith Sanders. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara Heeb Sanders of the home, one son, Greg Sanders and his wife Teresa of Jonesboro, one daughter, Stephanie Miller, one sister, Devona “Dee” Pranger of Paragould, five grandchildren, Chase Sanders and his wife Abby, Payton Sanders, Zachary Anschultz, Cameron Wright, and Candice Sims, and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel, with Mr. Brock Kendall officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday, 1:00-2:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Chase Sanders, Payton Sanders, Ray Blanchard, Mark Weston, Jason McGee and Kevin Molder. Interment will follow in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery. Family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to your local church.
