Brookland, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – March 3, 2025 – Brookland Public Schools (BPS) Board of Education members and students broke ground on the site of the district’s newest building Monday.
The new building will be an intermediate center for 750 3rd and 4th grade students. The 83,000-square-foot, two-story building is scheduled to be completed in time for the fall 2026 school year.
It will also feature special education spaces, a Media Center, art and music classrooms, a cafeteria with a full-service kitchen and a multi-use gym that doubles as a storm shelter for the entire school population. It’s located two miles northeast of the main campus and will be located at 9482 US-49B.
“This is a big moment for us. This new intermediate school and the groundbreaking is very important for our community,” said BPS superintendent Brett Bunch. “It’s gonna give us the opportunity to meet some of our growth expectations.”
The project is a response to a need for more space for students, due to enrollment numbers increasing since 2022.
Nabholz Construction will be managing the project. Haag Brown Real Estate and Development announced Feb. 6 that BPS bought 103 acres of land for the expansion.
“We’re extremely excited. This has been a very long journey for us to be able to find this ground and it’s absolutely stunning,” said BPS Board of Education president Danna Johnson. “What a beautiful setting this is going to be, not only for our kids in our school, but for the community as well and we’re looking forward to getting started and getting these kids that are here into their brand new building.”
