Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 5, 2025 – Jonesboro, Craighead County and the Deep South are bracing for a winter blast of cold air that will bring in the coldest temperatures so far this winter.
Rain was falling across the area early Sunday afternoon. The precipitation was expected to continue into tonight before ending late tonight or early Monday morning.
Temperatures in the low 40s were expected to drop into the lower 20s by Monday morning.
There was a chance that the colder air could move in before the rain ends which could cause the rain to change to snow showers, sleet or freezing rain before it ends. Areas to the North of Jonesboro and Craighead County such as Paragould, Walnut Ridge, Pocahontas, Kennett, MO and other areas to the North and West were under a Winter Weather Advisory for later tonight due to the possibility of the frozen precipitation. Snowfall amounts were not expected to exceed an inch.
Once the precipitation moves out, cold air will remain in place the rest of the week. High temperatures will be at or below freezing Monday through Wednesday with lows at night in the upper teens and lower 20s. Weather forecasters are monitoring the development of another storm system that could bring winter precipitation by the end of the week.
The wind could also be a factor as the colder air moves in. Northwest winds gusting as high as 35 miles an hour could happen later today and tonight.
