Mrs. Bonnie Sue Massey Cox, of Harrisburg, departed this life on Monday evening, June 3, 2024, at her son’s home in Braselton, GA, at the age of 80.
She was born October 27, 1943 in the family home at Bay Village, AR, the daughter of the late James Arthur Massey, Sr. and Stella Ophelia Arbuckle Massey.
Bonnie was one of nine children and enjoyed a very loving home. She maintained a loving relationship with her siblings her whole life and they enjoyed numerous family get-togethers. She attended elementary school in Bay Village and High School in Vanndale. She married Wroby Dale Cox and they made their home in Harrisburg. They enjoyed 40 years together before his death in 2003. Bonnie lived a very full and active life in Harrisburg. She worked for many years at the Bank of Harrisburg starting in 1968 and later with First National Bank. Over the years, she worked in many different capacities of banking. She was the vice-president of First National Bank at the time of her retirement in 2011. Bonnie was also very active in the First United Methodist Church of Harrisburg, having served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was active in the Chancel Choir, the United Methodist Women, and served on the Administrative Board. She was chairman of that Board in 2012 and 2013 and a Lay Delegate to Conference in 2014, 2015, and 2016. Bonnie loved God, her church, her family, her grandchildren, flowers, reading, and so much more. She just loved life and all that it brought her each day. She was a ray of sunshine to all who knew her. Always positive and always seeing the best in everyone.
In addition to her parents, James and Stella Massey, she was also preceded in death by her husband Wroby Dale Cox, six siblings, Berthel Freeman, Jimmy Massey, Barbara Massey, W.A. Massey, Josie Freeman, and Ray Massey.
She is survived by two children, James Cox and his wife Amber of Braselton, GA and Tricia Weaver and her husband Jeff of Pleasant View, TN; 3 grandchildren, Marcella Pearson and her husband Noah of Byron, GA, Kirby Fagan and her husband Trevor of Jonesboro, and Ashton Higginbotham of Elberton, GA; 1 great grandchild, Loretta Pearson of Byron, GA; and 2 brothers, Marvin Massey and his wife Zada of Trumann and Jerry Massey and his wife Brenda of El Paso. She also is survived by a very special friend that she looked upon as her #2 son, Johnny Paul Harper of Harrisburg and his family, wife Robin and two sons, Keith and Zachary.
Funeral services have been entrusted to Gregg-Weston Funeral Home of Harrisburg. They are set for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Michael Utley and Mr. Mark Weston officiating. Interment will follow in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery in Harrisburg.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday evening, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Bill Elliott, Zach Neugebauer, Kevin Wright, Greg Reddmann, Mark Morgan, and Michael Sefers. Honorary pallbearers will be Twila Ford, Donna Bell, Donna Morgan, Jimmy Carl King, Jim Tom Butler, Lisa Jarrett, Nikki Haughey, Tom Wimpy, Larry Jennings, and Larry Paul Lyerly.
