Jonesboro, AR (JonesboroRightNow.com) – January 5, 2024 – On January 10th, 11th, and 12th, 2024, KAIT8 News and the American Red Cross invite the community to participate in the annual ‘Be the Hero’ blood drive, held at various locations across Northeast Arkansas.
Since over a decade, this partnership aims to replenish hospital blood supplies during the winter months, crucial for patients in need. Donors of all blood types, especially type O, are urgently needed to ensure treatments can continue uninterrupted. Each donor will receive a Be The Hero Red Cross T-shirt and a chance to win a trip for two to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.
Micheal Sullivan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross serving Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas, expresses gratitude for the community’s consistent support. This year, the drive expands to multiple locations, including St. Bernard’s Auditorium in Jonesboro, Arkansas Methodist Medical Center Auditorium in Paragould, Great River Medical Center in Blytheville, Black River Technical College in Pocahontas, and Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Walnut Ridge.
January, National Blood Donor Month, faces challenges due to decreased donor turnout amidst holiday activities and winter weather. Yet, the need remains constant, with the Red Cross requiring nearly 13,000 blood and over 2,600 platelet donations daily to serve patients nationwide.
To schedule an appointment for the drive, individuals can use the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org with sponsor code “KAIT,” or call 1-800-RED CROSS. Joining this cause not only saves lives but also embodies the spirit of community and compassion.
