Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Oct. 23, 2024 – A Bay woman was charged on Wednesday with domestic battery after allegedly fracturing two of her 7-week-old infant’s bones.
On Oct. 16, Jonesboro police received a report from the Crimes Against Children division stating 24-year-old Katie Williams took her baby to NEA Baptist Hospital for what she believed was a dislocated leg. X-rays showed an acute fracture in the child’s left tibia. The child was transferred to Arkansas Children’s Hospital under the care of DHS.
Due to the child testing positive for THC and fentanyl at birth, he was tested for bone defects, after which it was determined he had none.
An NEA Baptist Hospital doctor said the fracture is consistent with a 45-degree bend and a twisting motion.
A Jonesboro police officer interviewed Williams on Oct. 17, who said she’d gotten up to feed the baby and change his diaper. She said during the diaper change, she felt and heard what she believed was a bone pop.
On Oct. 21, an NEA Baptist Hospital doctor told Jonesboro police of another fracture around the infant’s ankle, but due to tissue surrounding it, they were unable to determine when the injury occurred. The doctor said it was plausible this injury could’ve occurred when the first fracture happened. She added that it would’ve taken great physical force for both fractures to occur, as infant bones are incredibly durable.
Due to the child’s injuries and the interviews Williams provided, she was charged with one count of 2nd degree domestic battery.
She was given a court date of Nov. 11 at 8:30 a.m. and a bond of $250,000 c/s. Conditions of the bond include a no-contact order with the child and wearing an ankle monitor.
