Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – July 21, 2025 – A previously convicted felon from Bay is being held on a $125,000 cash-only bond after police say he led officers on a chase during an attempted traffic stop, leading to a tasing and drugs and a gun being found.

According to an affidavit, on July 19, a Jonesboro police officer stopped a vehicle at Union Street and West Matthews Avenue due to it having unconfirmed insurance. However, when trying to stop the vehicle, the vehicle rolled through a red light and stopped.

The officer got out of his patrol vehicle and noticed the driver, 34-year-old Scott Allen Brown, looking in his rear-view mirror and then speed off.

The affidavit said that a chase began, leading through several intersections including East Oak Avenue and South Church Street, where a crash almost occurred involving an ambulance. The officer then contacted his on-duty supervisor to cancel the attempted traffic stop and Arkansas State Police was notified.

The chase continued with ASP on Rains Street, with the Jonesboro officer following troopers. At one point, Brown turned around, and the officer saw Brown’s vehicle turning around in a yard, driving erratically on the road. This caused the officer to pull onto the side of the road to avoid crashing into Brown’s vehicle.

Police said Brown then lost control of his vehicle on Elmwood Place and went into a yard, hitting a retaining wall. Brown got out of the vehicle and began running on foot, but an ASP trooper tased Brown, causing him to fall to the ground. He was taken into custody.

A search of Brown’s vehicle was conducted, with a black Walther 9mm handgun being found on the passenger seat. Brown was taken to the hospital, and once he was cleared by medical staff, he was then taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.

The affidavit said that during intake at the facility, staff found that Brown had a baggie containing 2.1 grams of meth within his buttock.

On July 21, Craighead County District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause to charge Brown with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of meth or cocaine greater than two grams but less than 10 grams, fleeing, tampering with physical evidence, possession of firearm by certain persons (prior violent felony with deadly weapon), no proof of liability insurance, reckless driving, and driving while license cancelled, suspended or revoked.

In the affidavit, the judge noted that Brown had a history of fleeing charges and called him “a danger to the public.” If Brown were to bail out, he was ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor.

Brown’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 21.
