Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Dec. 18, 2024 – An Annie Camp Junior High School student was arrested after reportedly bringing a gun to school.

Jonesboro police officer Scottie Freeman was working as a student resource officer on Monday, Dec. 16 when Vice Principal Kevin Ryan asked him to meet him in his office. When Freeman got to the office, he met with a 14-year-old student, who told Freeman he had a gun in his bag.

When the student opened the bag, Freeman saw a silver and black gun. Freeman removed the magazine from the gun, which had ten rounds of ammunition. There was no ammo in the chamber. Freeman also found two vape pens and $20 worth of loose change.

The juvenile was taken into custody, during which he told Freeman he had another vape pen in his front pocket. No other weapons were found.

According to the incident report, the juvenile told the vice principal someone left the gun at his house, and that he brought it to school with him because he didn’t know what else to do with it. He added that he had no intentions of using the gun on anyone at school.

The student was transported to the Craighead County Juvenile Department.

On Tuesday, Dec. 17, JPD officer Josh Wiiest test-fired the weapon, producing two casings.
