Bay, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — June 28, 2025 — A Bay woman is being held on a $100,000 cash/surety bond after police said she stabbed her mother and got into a standoff with law enforcement.

Craighead County Judge David Boling found probable cause June 27 to charge 29-year-old Maryanna Marie Flatt with first-degree domestic battery.

The probable cause affidavit said on the morning of June 25, an officer went to an apartment in the 400 block of Patterson Street for an assault that had already occurred. Dispatch advised that the suspect, Flatt, was still at the scene, armed with a knife.

The officer met with the victim, who was Flatt’s mother. She told the officer that Flatt had stabbed her and wasn’t sure if Flatt’s child was inside the home.

The affidavit stated that when the officer met with Flatt, they could tell that she was “extremely upset and hostile.” She told the officer that the child was in daycare, at which time Craighead County deputies arrived at the scene. The officer asked the mother to call the daycare to confirm if the child is actually there and did so.

The officer, now accompanied by a deputy, returned to the apartment to talk with Flatt, but according to the officer, Flatt was “not interested in talking to us.” More deputies arrived along with other members of the Bay Police Department, including Chief Keith Milam.

According to the affidavit, a counselor from the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office also attempted to talk to Flatt but was unsuccessful.

“There were times when Ms. Flatt would throw objects from an open window located in front of the apartment and wave a knife along with other blunt objects in front of the window while we were waiting for other assisting officers to arrive on scene,” the document said.

The officer added that Flatt shouted several threats toward officers at the scene and even walked a couple of times outside the front door, holding a large knife and challenging them to shoot her.

After several unsuccessful attempts to get her out, the Craighead County SWAT team was notified and soon arrived. They were able to get into the apartment and arrested Flatt.

Flatt is being held in the Craighead County Detention Center awaiting her next court appearance on July 31.
