Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 17, 2025 – Arkansas State women’s tennis is set for its first of seven home matches this season, and its lone home match in January, hosting Missouri State at 5 p.m. tonight inside Trim Gym’s indoor facility.
The Red Wolves enter the match at 2-1 on the young season after picking up wins over Louisiana Tech (5-2) and Wyoming (7-0) at Tulsa’s Hurricane Invite. MSU will be opening its season with the match, its first of five straight on the road to open the year. Admission to the match is free.
Friday’s match also includes free pizza and “Lamanade” for fans, as well as a raffle. New this season is the A-State Tennis ball crew for kids grades 3-12. More information and registration can be found here.
Following Friday’s match, A-State travels to Ole Miss for a Sunday match slated for an 11 a.m. start. The Rebels open the season Friday at Memphis and finished last season ranked 44th nationally.
“This is a huge weekend for us,” A-State head coach Sujay Lama said. “We are looking forward to an electric atmosphere for our first home match. Our ladies are excited to play in front of our fans and showcase an attacking and attractive brand of tennis. Sunday’s match is going to be a great opportunity to play a team that is typically a nationally-ranked team. It will be a great challenge but also a huge opportunity to play freely and aggressively.”
A pair of freshmen from Spain lead the Pack with 3-0 singles records through the first three dual matches – Carla Muro Castellvi and Loles Carbo Chova – anchoring the lineup at the No. 5 and 6 positions.
In doubles play, Anna Grigoreva and Muro Castellvi boast a 2-1 record, tied for the team lead with the No. 3 duo Hanmare McAslin and Sarah Millard.
