Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 7, 2025 – Due to the approaching winter weather on Friday, Arkansas State University will be opening its residence halls early.

Residence halls will now open Thursday, Jan. 9 at 9 a.m. to allow students to move in before the weather deteriorates. They were originally scheduled to open on Friday.

Temperatures are expected to be below freezing this week, with snow forecasted to move in the Jonesboro area starting late Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service.

“All students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this adjustment to ensure their safety and preparedness,” a news release from the university said. “Campus staff are working diligently to prepare for this change including impacts to Dining, Facilities Management, UPD [University Police Department], the Campus Card Center, and more.”

Classes are scheduled to start on Monday, Jan. 13.
