Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Oct. 30, 2024 – For those who that are a little more sensitive the lights and sounds associated with Halloween, several A-State departments have come together once again this year for their Sensory Friendly Trick or Treat.
This free public event will be held on Friday from 4-7 p.m. inside the ASU Speech and Hearing Center at 2501 Danner Ave. on the Arkansas State University campus. It is sponsored by A-State’s Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Athletic Training departments.
According to A-State grad-student Anna Rubottom, this event is designed for people who have a harder time with Halloween because of the over-stimulation the holiday can bring. However, it is open to everyone of all ages, whether they have disability or not, she said.
“The sounds and flashing lights can be over-stimulating to them, so, this provides them with a safe alternative,” Rubottom. “It is fun for kids and parents alike. They can wear a costume if they want and go around knocking on doors for candy like a traditional Halloween experience.”
Rubottom also noted that they will have plenty of candy and carnival games as well.
