Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — April 12, 2025 — Police said what began as a stop for walking on the street led to a foot chase, taser deployment, and the arrest of a Jonesboro man on multiple charges after suspected narcotics were found.

According to an affidavit, on April 10, Jonesboro Police Officer Landon Whitlow was near Vine Street and Jefferson Avenue when he saw a man in black clothing walking on the street nearby where a sidewalk was available. A city ordinance says it is illegal for a person to leave a sidewalk, curb, or other places of safety and walk or run in the path of traffic.

The officer met with the man, 41-year-old Kelvin Deshawn Street, and after explaining the reason for meeting with him, Street ran away and the officer went after him, the affidavit said.

During the chase, Street tripped and fell on the ground, and Landon deployed his taser. Street tried to get back up, but Officer Landon used his taser again “due to the ineffectiveness the first time,” the affidavit said. However, he got back up again, according to the affidavit.

The officer was eventually able to get on top of Street, who reportedly continued to resist arrest and attempted to push up off the ground to run away again. Other officers arrived and arrested him.

The affidavit said that while searching Street, officers found multiple small bags of marijuana, each weighing close to a gram. Other items were found in the area that the chase occurred at including a small digital scale, another small baggie that contained nearly 13 grams of meth, and a small pill bottle containing 58 multi-colored pills believed to be ecstasy.

Street was evaluated by Emergency Medical Services and taken to a hospital. After he was checked out, Street was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center to be booked.

On April 11, a judge found probable cause to charge Street with possession of meth or cocaine with the purpose to deliver greater than 10 grams but less than 200 grams, possession of a Schedule I or II substance (not meth or cocaine) with the purpose to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a Schedule VI substance with the purpose to deliver, resisting arrest, fleeing, and obstructing traffic.

In addition to being given a $150,000 cash/surety bond, the judge ordered Street to wear an ankle monitor upon release.

Street is scheduled to have his next court appearance on May 22.
