Brookland, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – May 3, 2024 – One person was injured Thursday afternoon, May 2, in a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 49 north of Brookland, according to Nick Gentry, a public information officer with the Arkansas State Police.

Camden Malone, 22, of Jonesboro was traveling northbound in a 2015 Jeep Cherokee when he crossed the center line and struck a 2017 Ford series pickup truck driven by Gary Watlington, 52, of Jonesboro. Watlington attempted to avoid the Jeep but was struck, sending both vehicles in a spin. Both vehicles ended up off the roadway in the southbound side of U.S. 49, Gentry said.

The accident happened at 3:15 p.m., he said.

Malone was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries, and Watlington was uninjured, Gentry said.

Malone faces charges of driving while intoxicated, driving on a DWI-suspended license, no liability insurance and careless or prohibited driving.

Traffic was backed up about a half of a mile in both directions.
