Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Aug 16, 2024 – Adding to JRN’s ongoing coverage of US Treasury Check fraud, a Jonesboro woman was arrested on Thursday for Forgery in the first degree.

On July 19, Alexus Gaston went to 1st Convenience Bank and deposited a check in the amount of $25,733.27 into her personal account. She then began withdrawing funds totaling $5,426 before the check was returned to the US Treasury stating that it was forged.

Gaston was identified via security footage from the bank and arrived at the Police Department on August 15 for an interview.

She told police that she was contacted by a subject who asked her if she had a bank account and if she could cash a check for them. She stated that she got the check and went to the bank with it. She deposited the money, withdrew $5,426 and gave half to the subject. She used the other half to pay her rent.

Gaston was arrested and transported to CCDC. She was given a $25,000 cash only bond during her PC hearing on Friday.
