Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Aug 15, 2024 – Mark Anthony Gibson passed from this life on August 9 as a result of injuries sustained during a two-vehicle accident on Highway 18.

Mark earned a professional degree as an Emergency Medical Technician-Ambulance (EMT-A) from Delta Vocational Technical School in 1986,was a graduate of the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, and was a dual-licensed funeral professional as an embalmer and funeral director. He later returned to Delta’s Professional Paramedic Program and earning the advanced degree of EMT-Paramedic.

Mark worked for Emerson Ambulance Service, Emerson Funeral Home, and West Memphis Fire Dept and achieved 38 years of service as a firefighter and paramedic. He also served as a certified law enforcement officer, working for police departments in Manila, Leachville, and West Memphis.  Mark also served as Deputy Coroner in Craighead, Mississippi and Crittenden counties before his retirement.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being on Lake Norfork with his family and friends. Mark was survived by his wife of 16 years, Cheri Gibson, who was also in the ambulance at the time of the wreck.

During his visitation service held on Wednesday evening, area ambulance services stepped up to answer the call. One Crittenden County agency, CEMS, spent the evening in Jonesboro covering the Emerson Ambulance station on the west side of Jonesboro so their crews could attend the service.

Additionally, Mark’s funeral was held on Thursday morning at Emerson Funeral Home, and CEMS again covered Emerson’s service areas so employees could be present as they laid him to rest.

Several local ambulance services were in attendance at Mark’s Thursday morning funeral held at Central Baptist Church, as well as JPD, JFD, and others.
