Roy Davenport, 81 of Paragould, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.  He was born on October 28, 1942, at his home in Goobertown, Arkansas to James Curtis and Lois Davenport.  

He graduated from Brookland High School in 1961. Roy worked in Jonesboro, Arkansas at Crane until moving to West Memphis where he worked selling insurance before becoming the Assistant Manager for Mid-Continent Truck Stops. Forty years ago, Roy returned to Paragould. In that time, he owned and operated Davenport Truck Stop on East Kingshighway for 4 years. He retired in 2004 after working for 27 years as the shop supervisor for the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company.  Eastside Baptist Church ordained Roy as a deacon in 1983. He was currently serving as a deacon to his BCBC family.  

Preceding him in death were his parents, James Curtis and Lois Davenport; siblings, Jay Davenport, Louise Williams, and Wayne Davenport; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roscoe and Lettie Hamilton and granddaughter, Rebecca Suzanne Davenport. 

Roy loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margie Davenport; his son Dennis Davenport and daughter-in-love, Norma. He is also survived by his granddaughters, the joys of his life: Fallyn Tiner and husband Eric, Jenna Craft and husband Will. Roy was delighted to be blessed with three great-grandchildren: Charlotte Kelley Tiner, Lilly Kate Craft and Henry James Tiner. In addition, he is survived by his sisters, Jane Guest and Glenda Sidenstricker and many nieces and nephews as well as life-long friends, Ron and Sue White and bonus family; Sam, Mandy, Kaley, and Anna Isom. 

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 27th at Phillips Funeral Home at 11:00 until the funeral which will begin at 1:00. Officiating services will be his nephew, Bro. Lance Guest, BCBC Pastor, Dale Noe and friend Cruz Hitt. The burial will be at the Mt. Zion Cemetery.  

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Greg Adams, Garry Gardner, Keith Morrow, Fred Nations, Gary Rawls, and Joe Weyer. The deacons of BCBC will serve as honorary pallbearers.
