Joyce Kayleen Smith, a spirited and passionate lover of life and sports, passed away peacefully in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on February 26, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on October 10, 1936, in Paragould, Arkansas, Joyce’s zest for life and her unwavering spirit were evident from a young age.
Joyce became known for her athletic ability, particularly on the basketball court during her high school years. Her love for the game translated into a lifelong affection for sports, with basketball holding a special place in her heart. A devoted fan of the LSU Lady Tiger Basketball team, Joyce held season tickets for many years.
After moving back to Paragould, Joyce stayed loyal and continued to follow her favorite team, never letting distance diminish her support.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Elta Monroe Russell and Iva Johnson Russell; husband, Norman J. Smith; siblings, Wilma Jean Ruehle, Clarence Wayne Russell, Emma Louise Adams, Gerry Mack Russell, and Elta Russell, Jr.
Joyce is survived by her brother, Glen Edward Russell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2, at Shiloh Cemetery with Dave White officiating.
