Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – June 7, 2024 – According to a Jonesboro Police Report, a 54 year old man at the Comfort Inn on Phillips Drive in Jonesboro intentionally broke a toilet, causing water to continuously overflow into the second story room, through the floor, and down into the lobby of the hotel.
The report states that officers initially responded to the hotel in relation to a “person refusing to leave” call. The suspect was found naked and barricaded in the bathroom when officers arrived. They ultimately talked him out of the bathroom and wrapped him in a blanket.
During their investigation, police noted that “the main lobby had sheet rock sagging from the ceiling with water running out, water was dripping from security cameras and the recessed lighting in the main entrance.”
Employees had placed comforters on the floor to help soak up the leaking water.
The City Building Inspector and the City Fire Marshall were called to the scene to inspect the building. Both determined that there was no significant threat to the structure and that the damage was mostly cosmetic.
According to the report, total damage done to the hotel was approximately $10,000.
