Betty Jean Getson, 81, of Pocahontas passed away in her sleep on June 1, 2024 while on a trip to Hot Springs with the VFW Post 4556 Auxiliary.

She was born at home in Attica, Arkansas on September 3, 1942 to Joe and Pauline Alphin.  She was married to Thomas Getson on August 11, 1961.

Betty was a member of the Shannon Baptist Church for 46 years and an active member of VFW Post 4556 Auxiliary for 15 years.  Betty served for 20 years as the Pocahontas Mayor’s secretary.  She was constantly involved in many community service endeavors and was not happy unless she was busy helping someone.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Getson; parents, Joe and Pauline Alphin; brothers, William Alphin and Leon Alphin; sisters, Wanda Blackwell and Geneva Alphin; and sisters-in-law, Dulene Alphin, Reva Alphin, and Sue Alphin.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Linda (Tim) Samons of Maynard; son, Randy Getson of Pocahontas; granddaughter, Karla (Clayton) Vandergriff of Ravenden Springs; grandson, Keith (Abbie) Crouch of Hillsboro, IL; brothers, Darrell Alphin of Attica, Gerry (Sharon) Alphin of Attica, and Randy (Donna) Alphin of Maynard; sister, Diane (Randy) Anis of Pocahontas; six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many many special friends.

Visitation will be Monday, June 3, 2024 from 6-8 PM in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home.  Funeral Service will be Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 2 PM at Shannon Baptist Church with Larry Rogers and Carl Thomason officiating.  Burial will follow in Thomas Cemetery.

Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Heath Alphin, Chad Alphin, Randy Joe Anis, Travis Alphin, Cody Alphin, Barkley Anis, Dustin Alphin, and David Alphin.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dewell James, Ridley James, Wesley Crouch, Clay Vandergriff, Ryker Crouch, and Aryana Crouch.
