Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – May 30, 2024 – A JPD officer was working off-duty security on Memorial Day when he heard from occupants of the City Pool that a man had a gun on the premises.

Arkansas Code §5-73-122 states that it is unlawful for a person to knowingly carry or possess a loaded firearm in any publicly owned building or facility.

Occupants of the pool told the uniformed officer that a 20-year old patron had a gun in his backpack, and that he had cocked it in the bathroom of the facility. The officer asked dispatch for backup, and when other officers arrived, they made contact with the suspect.

Officers asked the suspect if the backpack where the firearm was allegedly located belonged to him and he said yes. He also confirmed to officers that he had a handgun in his bag due to recent issues he’d been having with other males at the pool.

At that time, officers escorted the suspect and the backpack outside the gates of the pool center where they searched the bag and located the weapon.

A Glock 36 was located along with a 6 round magazine and a 3D printed magazine extender. The police report also states that the weapon had “one in the chamber ready to fire.”

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to CCDC.
