Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – May 29, 2024 – In the middle of the night over Memorial Day weekend, JPD was called to an address on Valley Drive. When they arrived, they were told that the neighbor, who lives behind them on Owens Dr, had killed their dog.

During their investigation, police learned that a dog was deceased in the backyard of the residence and had an arrow in its neck. Police noted several holes in the fence that had attempted to be patched over time. Police also noted a blood trail leading from the yard, through a hole in the fence, over toward the area of the neighbor’s yard.

The resident stated that he was inside his home when he heard his dogs outside barking loudly. When they went outside to investigate, he told police that he saw his neighbor shoot their dog with an arrow.

An Animal Control officer arrived on scene and was bitten by two other dogs belonging to the resident, who were then contained to a separate caged area.

Officers asked the neighbor if he shot the dog, which he admitted to, because the dog had been attacking his rabbits and damaging his fence. He stated that this had been an ongoing issue, and he had contacted Animal Control multiple times about the dog over the past year or so.

The neighbor was not charged with Cruelty to Animals, due to allegedly protecting his own property, and the dog being on his property at the time. The dog owner was charged with two counts of failure to provide vaccination requirements on the two dogs that bit the Animal Control officer. The owner was cited and released with an OR bond.
