Paragould, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – A juvenile has been cited for harassment following an investigation into misconduct involving Greene County Tech football players in the team’s locker room.

According to an update released Friday by Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder, the juvenile faces three Class A misdemeanor counts of harassment stemming from a state police probe.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) first received a report of the incidents on Sept. 25. Following the acceptance of a child abuse hotline report, Jamie England Moore with the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division conducted the investigative interviews, with GCSO Detective Sgt. Russ Latimer present to observe and take notes.

According to the sheriff, the investigation revealed three separate incidents involving three juvenile victims:

  • Victim 1: Reported being wrestled to the locker room floor by the alleged offender while “other players assisted in holding him down.” The offender allegedly exposed his genitals and attempted to rub them on the victim’s face while the victim yelled for help. Two witnesses corroborated the event.
  • Victim 2: A witness to the first incident, this juvenile reported a separate incident where he was dragged down and held on the locker room floor while the offender placed his exposed genitals against his cheek.
  • Victim 3: Reported being pursued after practice by the offender and “several other players” attempting to force him into the locker room for “birthday spankings.” The victim fled and hid in a baseball dugout until the group left.

Snyder said that the victim and witness statements described “unwanted physical contact, attempted contact, and conduct directed toward humiliating and harassing the victims.”

Based on those statements, Latimer issued the alleged offender a juvenile citation for three counts of harassment—one count for each victim. Under Arkansas law, harassment is a Class A misdemeanor.

Because all individuals involved are juveniles, their identities are being protected by anonymous designations in the release.

However, victim statements indicated “other players” assisted in holding victims down and pursuing them. When asked by JRN if those additional players would face citations, Snyder left the door open for further action.

“If further information is gleaned regarding other persons involved, we will certainly follow up on that information and proceed accordingly,” he told JRN Friday afternoon.

Regarding whether the harassment citations could be escalated to more severe charges given the physical nature of the allegations, Snyder noted the limitations of his department’s purview.

“This is a case [that] involved all juveniles and will be handled in juvenile court,” he said. “The juvenile prosecutor may run that up the chain to her office, but that is not my decision or purview.”

Following the sheriff’s update, the Greene County Tech School District released a statement Friday afternoon confirming it had temporarily paused its own inquiry at the request of law enforcement but will now proceed with internal disciplinary measures.

“The district will now resume its own investigation to determine the extent of each student’s involvement and the appropriate disciplinary action,” the statement read, adding that it strongly condemns the actions detailed in the police investigation.

“The conduct described by the sheriff’s office is unacceptable. This behavior is inconsistent with the standards expected of GCT students and athletes,” the district stated. “In addition to addressing individual misconduct, the district will reinforce expectations regarding appropriate behavior, personal boundaries, and respect for others among its student athletes. The district remains committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all students.”

This is a developing story. JRN will provide updates as they are available.
