Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – TrinityRail’s heavy railcar maintenance operations at its Jonesboro facility will be discontinued, the company confirmed to JRN Wednesday.

According to a statement from the company, Trinity decided to permanently discontinue fixed maintenance operations at its Jonesboro facility due to “current market conditions and to better align our railcar maintenance network.”

“The Jonesboro site is not closing, and Trinity will continue to use the location for mobile repair and storage operations,” Jack Todd, vice president of public affairs at Trinity, said in a statement.

The restructuring is expected to affect around 172 employees. The statement noted that some affected employees will be able to apply for positions involving mobile repair and storage operations at the facility.

The facility, located at 3100 Trinity Road, will focus on light railcar maintenance work and become a regional hub for Trinity’s mobile railcar repair unit business. It previously conducted maintenance on heavy railcar operations.

“Trinity recognizes the significant impact this restructuring will have on affected employees and is committed to providing resources and support during this transition,” Todd said in the statement. “Trinity will maintain a presence in Jonesboro through mobile repair and storage operations. Trinity remains committed to serving its customers and the communities in which it operates.”

TrinityRail was founded in Dallas, TX, in the 1940s and expanded over the years to include railcar manufacturing, parts, and maintenance facilities across the country, according to its website. Trinity Industries Inc. purchased the Jonesboro facility in 2014, and it celebrated 10 years at that location in 2024.
