Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – Two men are behind bars after police said they discovered over 100 grams of drugs, including suspected fentanyl, hidden inside a U-Haul van during an early-morning traffic stop in Jonesboro.

The Craighead County Detention Center inmate roster shows that 32-year-old Dustin Larue Brawley and 35-year-old Michael Gray were both arrested on Aug. 28.

According to a probable cause affidavit, on Aug. 25, Jonesboro police officers initiated a traffic stop at Alexander Drive and Wood Street on a U-Haul van for traveling faster than the posted 65 mph zone.

Before the stop, officers noted it was around 2 a.m. and that the van had left a motel known to have drug activity. Officers met with the driver, Brawley, and the front-seat passenger, Gray, and informed them of why they were stopped.

After learning that both occupants were on probation/parole, officers had them step out while a K-9 ran around the vehicle. The K-9 gave a positive alert, prompting a search.

Police said they looked through various parts of the vehicle and found multiple bags of drugs and paraphernalia. Their overall findings included:

  • 99.8 total grams of suspected meth (79.7 grams in the dash and 20.1 grams in the engine compartment)
  • 27.7 grams of suspected marijuana
  • 1.1 grams of suspected fentanyl
  • Multiple hypodermic needles
  • A digital scale with suspected meth residue

In a Mirandized interview, Brawley and Gray stated they did not know whose drugs they were or where they came from, the affidavit said.

Both men appeared in front of Judge Barbara Halsey on Aug. 31. She found probable cause to charge them both with the following offenses:

  • Trafficking of fentanyl (Class Y felony)
  • Possession of meth or cocaine with purpose to deliver greater than 10 grams but less than 200 grams (Class A felony)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia (Class D felony)
  • Possession of a Schedule VI substance less than four ounces (Class A misdemeanor)

Additionally, Brawley faces an unclassified misdemeanor of speeding one to 15 miles per hour over the limit.

Brawley and Gray are each being held on $750,000 cash/surety bonds. Their next scheduled court appearances are for Oct. 26ith scheduled court appearances for Oct. 26.
