Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – A Jonesboro man is being held on a $150,000 cash/surety bond after police said he attacked his pregnant girlfriend, choking her to the point of unconsciousness.

Judge Barbara Halsey found probable cause Aug. 31 to charge 24-year-old Nathan Keshunj Young with one class D felony: Aggravated assault on a family or household member.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on Aug. 30, Jonesboro police officers responded to a home in the 200 block of Maurita Street for a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers heard two women inside the home speaking loudly at each other. One of them was identified as the victim, who was described as being “very distraught and crying hysterically”.

Officers noted a cut on the victim’s right cheek that had been bleeding and significant swelling to the cheek bone area. Several scratches were also found on both of the victim’s shoulders and neck.

A witness told police that she and the victim were talking outside when Young locked them out of the house. The victim began knocking on the door and windows to get back inside. The witness stated that Young was angry because the victim was three months pregnant; she was supposed to take abortion pills but flushed them instead because she wanted to keep the baby.

Once Young opened the door, he slapped the victim and the two began screaming at each other. The witness said she went into a different bedroom to get the children, where she heard banging as if a physical altercation was happening.

The witness then came out of the bedroom and saw that Young had the victim on the ground in a headlock, applying pressure to her neck.

Officers spoke with the victim, who told them that Young hit her several times and applied pressure to the point she was gasping for air because she could not breathe. Young then grabbed the victim and dragged her into the living room area.

The victim said that while on the ground, Young began punching her in the face over and over, delivering several strikes to the right side of her face. She went unconscious at one point and woke up dizzy afterward. She also complained of stomach pain and was going to the hospital with her friend.

Young was later found at an address on Bridlewood Drive and placed in custody.

In addition to the $150,000 bond, Halsey ordered Young to have no contact with the victim, and he must not be in possession of any firearms. He will also have to wear a GPS ankle monitor upon release.

Young’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 26.
