Little Rock, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – May 11, 2024 – Each year, National Police Week is observed to reflect upon and remember the law enforcement officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and serving the public. This year’s observance is Sunday, May 12 – Saturday, May 18.

On Thursday, May 9, the State of Arkansas honored the families of four officers whose lives were lost in recent years at the 43nd Annual State Peace Officers’ Memorial Day Service, held on the grounds of the State Capitol.

The memory of ASP Cpl. Jeff Hust, who passed away on May 2, 2017, was honored at the ceremony, where his name has been added to the Law Enforcement Memorial monument. Cpl. Hust was 51 years old at the time of his death and had served the citizens of Arkansas for 19 years as an Arkansas State Trooper and seven with the El Dorado Police Department. His widow, Shelbi, was present at the event, where Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders shared words of gratitude to her and other surviving family members of the fallen officers.

Also honored were Vincent Parks, Jonesboro Police Department, who died in July 2022; James Lett, Benton Police Department, who died in November 2023; and Justin Smith, Stone County Sheriff’s Office, who died in January 2024.
