Jonesboro, AR – Contributed – The Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library invites the community to attend the first installment of its 2026 Speaker Series, Where Stories Live: Stories, Memory, & Belonging in Craighead County, on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 10 a.m. in the Round Room.

This free event is open to ages 13 and older and will explore the stories, traditions, people, and places that have shaped Craighead County.

The program will explore the history and experiences that have shaped Craighead County, examining the role of cultural organizations, family stories, local businesses, restaurants, and community spaces in preserving the traditions and stories that connect generations and contribute to the heritage of Northeast Arkansas.

The event will feature presentations and a moderated panel discussion with:

  • Dr. Edward Salo, Chair of the History Department and Director of Heritage Studies at Arkansas State University
  • Carolina Elmore, Assistant Director of the Hispanic Center
  • Nathan Whitmire, Acquisitions Manager at the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library

Together, the speakers will share historical perspectives, personal experiences, and community insights before participating in a conversation about the importance of preserving local stories and strengthening community connections.

“Our community is shaped by the stories, traditions, and experiences of the people who call Craighead County home,” said marketing and PR manager Rylie Yawson. “This event invites us to look beyond the places and buildings of our past and explore the people, cultures, organizations, and traditions that make our community what it is today. It’s an opportunity to learn from our shared history, celebrate the diverse experiences that make Craighead County unique, and consider how we can preserve these stories for future generations.”

The program will conclude with a moderated question-and-answer session, allowing the speakers to continue the conversation and explore topics related to local history, community connections, cultural traditions, and the importance of preserving the stories that shape Craighead County.

Where Stories Live is the first of three events in the library’s 2026 Speaker Series, which is proudly sponsored by Friends of the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library, St. Bernards Healthcare and Medical Group, Farmers & Merchants Bank, NEA Baptist, Arkansas State University Division of Access and Institutional Engagement, and Best Manufacturing.
