Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – The Jonesboro City Council unanimously approved two contracts regarding pool lane usage agreements for two local competitive swim teams.

The decisions come after a resolution regarding lane usage was indefinitely tabled in late May after city officials told the two teams, the Jets Aquatic Club and Shark Wave Aquatic Team (SWAT) to reach an agreement. Historically, the two teams have shared the pool at the Jonesboro Pool Complex at predetermined times to practice.

The teams had raised concerns regarding the old contract, which was to split the lanes based on team size. While one team would have fewer lanes, the old contract specified that the pool’s heating costs were to be divided equally. The two new contracts were forwarded to the full city council during the Finance and Administration Council Committee’s July 14 meeting, where there was no discussion.

Per the two contracts, Jets will have six lanes, while SWAT will have four. During the vote on both contracts, councilman Chris Gibson recused himself due to having a daughter who swims for one of the teams.

No further discussion was had regarding either contract.
