Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A Jonesboro man is behind bars after police said he attempted to break into a home, damaging it in the process, during a domestic disturbance.

District Judge David Boling found probable cause June 12 to charge 25-year-old Dylan Liam Mitstifer with the following offenses:

  • Criminal attempt (Class B felony)
  • First-degree criminal mischief/property of another with a value of $1,000 or less (Class A misdemeanor)
  • Third-degree assault/creates apprehension of imminent injury (Class C misdemeanor)

According to the probable cause affidavit, on June 6, Jonesboro police officers responded to a home on Neely Lane for an in-progress domestic disturbance.

While heading that way, officers were told that the victim had called 911 twice, reporting that an unwanted subject was refusing to leave the home, causing property damage, and attempting to break into the home.

Upon arrival, officers met with the victim, who told them he had been at the home watching movies with a friend, later identified as Mitstifer, when an argument began. The victim said that he told Mitstifer to leave the home, and after Mitstifer exited, he locked the door behind him.

The victim said that Mitstifer remained outside yelling, banging on the door and window, and threatening to assault the victim. While doing so, the front window shattered, causing Mitstifer’s hand to be cut. Officers noted blood on the front window, window frame, porch, and leading away from the home.

Police learned the victim initially called 911 to report the property damage and Mitstifer’s presence. Shortly after, he called 911 a second time after Mitstifer began kicking the front door to try to get inside. The force of the kicks caused items hanging on the interior walls to move and fall. The victim further advised that, based on Mitstifer’s statements and actions, he feared Mitstifer would physically assault him if he got inside.

At the time of the incident, the victim requested to wait until the homeowner was present before formally documenting the property damage.

Other responding officers found Mitstifer during a traffic stop near Southwest Drive and Kellers Chapel Road as he was leaving the area. Police said Mitstifer was sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle and actively bleeding from his right hand.

Mitstifer initially told officers that the victim had cut his hand but also admitted that his hand went through the window at the home. After obtaining identifying information from all involved parties, officers released Mitstifer pending further investigation.

A follow-up investigation was conducted at the home on June 7, revealing extensive damage to the front door frame.

“The wood surrounding the frame was split, causing the frame to sag,” the affidavit noted. “The deadbolt locking mechanism had been partially torn away from the frame and could no longer properly secure the door.”

Officers also noticed the shattered front window with a large hole consistent with a hand passing through it, as well as blood droplets across the porch.

Based on the evidence, Mitstifer was arrested and booked into the Craighead County Detention Center on June 12; the jail roster shows.

At Friday’s hearing, Boling noted that although Mitstifer has no convictions, he was previously arrested on multiple aggravated and attempted burglary charges. Because of this, Mitstifer was given a $150,000 cash/surety bond. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Mitstifer’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 30. If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 21 years in prison and fines up to $18,000.
