Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com -The 2026 season came to a close Saturday for the Arkansas State Red Wolves after a 6-2 loss to the South Alabama Jaguars in Mobile, ending the Red Wolves’ hopes of reaching the Sun Belt Conference postseason tournament.
Arkansas State finished the season 29-24 overall and 12-18 in Sun Belt Conference play, placing 11th in the final league standings. Only the top 10 teams qualified for next week’s conference tournament, leaving the Red Wolves just outside the postseason field.
The weekend series against South Alabama reflected the rollercoaster nature of Arkansas State’s season. The Red Wolves opened the series Thursday with an emphatic 10-0 run-rule victory, pounding out 16 hits while Tyler Weimer delivered 6.2 shutout innings. But South Alabama answered with victories Friday and Saturday to secure the series and end A-State’s season.
Despite missing the conference tournament, the year featured several significant milestones for second-year head coach Mike Silva and his program.
Arkansas State burst onto the national scene early in the season, highlighted by a statement win over the nationally-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks and a series victory over the then-No. 7 Southern Miss Golden Eagles to open Sun Belt play. The Red Wolves climbed into the national rankings during the first half of the season and appeared poised to contend near the top of the conference standings.
One of the season’s signature moments came earlier this month when pitcher Ckyler Tengler threw just the seventh no-hitter in program history during a 12-0 victory over Little Rock Trojans.
Although Arkansas State faded late in conference play — losing six of its final eight Sun Belt series — the program showed clear signs of growth under Silva. The Red Wolves remained one of the league’s better offensive clubs and finished among the Sun Belt leaders in pitching for much of the season.
Off the field, momentum around the program continues to build.
Earlier this year, Arkansas State officially broke ground on a new 40,000-square-foot Player Development Center and Indoor Practice Facility that will overlook right field at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field. The facility will include a full turf infield, batting cages, pitching tunnels, a weight room, coaches offices, meeting space, and premium fan seating.
Silva called the project “a gamechanger” for player development, recruiting, and the overall future of the program. Athletic department leaders have also pointed to the facility as another major investment in elevating Arkansas State baseball within one of the nation’s strongest baseball conferences.
The Red Wolves reached the Sun Belt Tournament a season ago during Silva’s first year as head coach, and while this season ended short of postseason play, the combination of upgraded facilities, increased investment, and flashes of national-caliber baseball suggest the foundation for the future continues to strengthen in Jonesboro.
