Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – May 2, 2024 – Local student teams from 22 Arkansas schools took top honors during the Spring 2024 sessions of The Stock Market Game. Jonesboro Visual and Performing Arts students Taelor Calloway & Alajah Clayton were the Elementary Region 4 Spring 1st Place winners.
The Stock Market Game challenges students in grades 4-12 to grow a hypothetical $100,000 portfolio over the course of 13 weeks. Winners receive cash prizes, awards, and recognition.
Teachers serve as advisors/helpers who teach their students learn how to research and become aware of current events that affect the market.
The winners are the teams in each division with the highest total equity at the end of each session. Students learn and develop skills with saving and investing principles, as well as math, business, communication, economics, and analytical skills.
Jonesboro VPA 6th graders Alajah Clayton and Taelor Calloway took 1st place in the Spring Division for Region 4. These students participated in The Stock Market Game within their ACE program (Gifted & Talented) with Stephanie Richardson as their advisor. Dr. Philip Tew from Arkansas State University also partnered with several local elementary schools and came and spoke to ACE classes to discuss how the stock market works and gave examples of what affects stocks.
Participation in the program is free for all teams through Economics Arkansas, a nonprofit educational organization that trains educators how to integrate economics and personal finance concepts into the PreK-12 classroom curriculum.
Teams of 1-5 students compete in several divisions – Elementary (Grades 4-6), Junior high (Grades 7-9), Senior high (Grades 10-12).
An awards luncheon for winners will be held May 8, 2024 at the Clinton Presidential Library and Museum in Little Rock.
