Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – The Jonesboro city council on Tuesday voted to indefinitely table a resolution that would have involved leasing space to house E911 administrative staff in favor of a new location that would be provided at no cost to the city.
During Tuesday’s city council meeting, Mayor Harold Copenhaver said that Chief Operating Officer Tony Thomas had worked out a plan for the city to use the Veterans Cottage Community Room to house staff. This will be at no cost to the city, Copenhaver said.

“[It will] provide an option to provide our 911 administrative staff ability to use that facility until another facility is built, so we don’t have to get into a contract and negotiations for a few years with expenditures,” Copenhaver said.
Only the administrative staff, who have been scattered across various city offices, will be housed in this building. The E911 dispatchers are housed in a fortified part of the Justice Complex.
A previous resolution would have had the city lease property at $2,300 per month for six months, located at 624 S. Main St. There was a possibility of renewal if the need arose. It was temporarily tabled in early March after Copenhaver told council members another property was being considered. The council voted to indefinitely postpone the resolution on Tuesday.
The Justice Complex was shut down and staff evacuated after a structural issue was discovered. Various offices and divisions housed in the building have been temporarily relocated around the city.
