Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – The Jonesboro Rotary Club will be hosting an informational Rotaract Club meet-and-greet on Monday, March 16, at Fat City Grill from 6 to 8 p.m.

A Rotaract Club is a Rotary International-sponsored organization for young adults to develop leadership and professional skills while engaging in community service. The club is open to adults between the ages of 18 and 35.

Though Rotaract is Rotary-sponsored, “Rotaract operates on its own level,” Mike Payson of the Jonesboro Rotary Club said.

“While the Jonesboro Rotary Club will be the organization helping to set this up, Rotaract will operate independently from it, doing its own service projects, holding its own fundraisers if they choose to do so, holding its own meetings, and will be selecting its own officers.”

“Rotaract Clubs focus on personal and professional development, networking, and making a positive impact on their local communities and the international community,” Payson said. “They are part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world.”

Rotaract was established by Rotary International in 1968 and has over 10,000 clubs and 203,000 members worldwide.

“The Rotaract Club of Jonesboro will be a community organization, open to young adults over the age of eighteen from the community, and is also open to A-State students,” Payson said. “Many of these young people will have had previous memberships in Interact clubs, another part of Rotary, in their high schools and middle schools.”

Prior membership in a Rotary International organization is not a requirement to join.
