Jonesboro, AR – (Contributed) – As families across Jonesboro struggle with mounting living expenses, The Salvation Army is experiencing an unprecedented surge in requests for assistance.
While the organization continues to provide vital support through its emergency shelter, emergency groceries, and Christmas assistance programs, donations have declined compared to the same period last year.

For many families, the holiday season has become a source of anxiety rather than joy.
“We’re seeing more families than ever before who simply can’t make ends meet,” said Captain Charles of The Salvation Army of Jonesboro. “Rising costs for housing, groceries, and utilities are pushing working families to seek help for the first time. Meanwhile, our operating expenses have increased significantly, making every donation more crucial than ever.”
Despite these challenges, The Salvation Army continues to make a difference. Last year, the organization assisted more than 8,824 individuals through comprehensive social service programs designed to meet both immediate and long-term needs within the community.
“Christmas should be a time of celebration, not worry about keeping the lights on or putting food on the table,” said Captain Smith. “Our Red Kettle Campaign isn’t just about holiday giving—it’s about ensuring our neighbors have the basic necessities year-round. Every donation stays right here in Jonesboro, directly helping families in crisis.”
