Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept. 2, 2025 – An Arkansas man charged with sexual indecency with a child in Jonesboro is being held on a $150,000 bond.

On Sept. 2, 29-year-old Jake Schmidt was charged with one count of sexual indecency with a child and one count of sexually grooming a child.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a man came to the Jonesboro Police Department and told the front desk that his child had disclosed to him that Schmidt had acted inappropriately toward them. The affidavit said Schmidt was the husband of the victim’s mother, but the victim was not Schmidt’s child.

The victim is under 13 years of age.

An interview with the victim was conducted in early August, in which the victim said while living with their mother and Schmidt in Jonesboro, he acted inappropriately toward them throughout 2024.

Schmidt showed the victim a cooler in which he kept a mold of female genitals, the affidavit said. The document also states Schmidt would touch the victim inappropriately, even when the victim asked him to stop.

According to the affidavit, Schimdt also exposed his genitals to the victim and offered the victim $20 to expose their genitals to him. He also showed the victim pornographic videos on his phone, the document said.

In setting bond, the judge noted Schmidt had several failures to appear and a prior criminal record.

Schmidt’s bond was set at $150,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order with the victim was set.

His next court date is set for Oct. 30.
