Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — July 28, 2025 — A previously convicted Trumann man is being held on a $250,000 cash/surety bond after police said he carjacked a person at gunpoint and was later linked by DNA to a separate home burglary where firearms and over $10,000 in collectibles were stolen.
Craighead County Judge David Boling found probable cause July 28 to charge 36-year-old Joshua Lee Hoover with residential burglary, theft greater than $5,000 but less than $25,000, theft of a firearm valued at less than $2,500, first-degree terroristic threatening, and first-degree criminal mischief. The charges stem from multiple incidents that occurred in June 2022.
The investigation into the first case began on June 12, 2022, when Jonesboro police officers responded to a business in the 3700 block of E. Parker Road for a robbery that had already occurred.
According to the affidavit, officers met with the victim, who said they left their vehicle unlocked to bring in cleaning supplies. When they went outside for more supplies, their vehicle was locked, causing the victim to go back inside for their keys.
When they opened their door, a man was in the driver’s seat and pointed a pistol at them, asking, “Give me the keys or I’ll shoot you,” police said. At the man’s request, the victim handed the keys over, and the man left the scene with the vehicle.
The affidavit said the vehicle was later found with no gas and abandoned, but multiple debit cards and Hoover’s driver’s license were inside. On June 15, 2022, the victim identified Hoover through a photo lineup as the man who robbed them.
Two days earlier, on June 13, 2022, Jonesboro police officers were sent to the scene of a reported burglary, where the victims said someone had broken into their home.
According to a second affidavit, the officers noted that someone had thrown a vehicle ball hitch through the front door’s glass to get inside, making off with multiple items, including two firearms and over $10,000 in collectible coins.
Police said when the suspect entered the home, they hurt themselves, causing them to bleed inside the home. The blood samples were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, revealing on March 11, 2025, that the blood was Hoover’s.
Then, back on June 15, 2022, Jonesboro police officers responded to the 2600 block of Clayburne Drive for two firearms being stolen.
A third affidavit said when one of the homeowners got back from work, Hoover, who was reportedly staying there, was gone. The victim noticed that two of their guns were both gone.
Hoover is being held at the Craighead County Detention Center. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 30.
Hoover is currently serving 40 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections after being convicted in Aug. 2024 of aggravated residential burglary, kidnapping and theft of property greater than $25,000.
Court documents show he’d also been charged with aggravated assault and rape in that same case; however, these charges were nolle prossed, meaning a prosector no longer wished to continue pursuing criminal charges against the defendant. Authorities caught him on June 20, 2022, following a weekend chase, K8 News reported.
