Monette, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — July 11, 2025 — The Monette Beautification Committee will be sponsoring the first Monette Gazebo Market Place in conjunction with the Buffalo Island Museum (BIM) opening day events on Saturday.
Monette Beautification Committee chair Barbara Suber said when the committee found out the BIM was going to have an opening day event with the Friends of Buffalo Island in the afternoon, committee members thought a farmer’s market would be a good accompaniment.
“There are so many local produce producers in our area. It would give them an opportunity to bring their goods downtown, right across the street [from the museum], and maybe promote our little town.”
Among the vendors, Suber noted a variety of items for sale, from fruits and vegetables to home-crafted items such as canned vegetables and jellies.
“We have another vendor that’s going to be bringing watermelons, and they are the best watermelons, not just in Northeast Arkansas, but I would put them against any melons in the state,” she said. “Then we have another local, who will be bringing all kinds of fresh vegetables like squash and okra and zucchini, and she’ll be bringing her canned goods to sell there too.”
“This is all free to any vendor that wants to set up there,” she said, noting there will be other types of booths, including a local 4H group and CPR and AED training. “We thought that would be interesting for anybody, even if they weren’t interested in buying fresh produce, they might would like to come and get this training.”
The Monette Gazebo Market Place will be Saturday, July 12, from 8 a.m. until noon at the corner of Drew Avenue and Edmonds Street in Monette. The Friends of the Buffalo Island Museum event will then follow from 1 to 4 p.m. at the museum, located at 207 W. Drew St.
According to Suber, vendors will set up and display their goods around the gazebo and across the street behind the veteran’s park.
“We hope that this will be a success and if it is and we’ll continue this and next year, we probably have it at the end of June. That way we won’t miss the fresh corn that usually comes around the 4th of July,” Suber said.
